Q. What should you expect on Trafalgar’s In Focus photography vacations?

A. All workshops are designed to get you into the right places at the right time to capture beautiful images. They are also designed to help you learn how to take better photographs by learning photographic techniques such as exposure, composition and lighting, and how to adjust the camera setting for optimum results, plus critiquing and processing tips.

Q. Will I have one-on-one instruction with photographer?

A. The photographer will be circulating among the group while on location, giving real time tips and suggestions, and will be available anytime throughout the trip for questions. Due to the larger group size, this is not a one-on-one photo workshop, but incorporates elements that make a memorable learning experience work while the guests are also on vacation. Guests are encouraged to ask questions, so all may benefit!

Q. What level of photographer do I have to be?

A. All shooters are welcome! Whether you are a novice or seasoned photographer, and regardless of the camera you (point-n-shoot or SLR), you’ll enjoy Trafalgars In Focus photography vacations. They are even geared for artists that would like to capture beautiful subjects for painting or drawing.

Q. What if my travel companion is not interested in photography?

A. Not a problem, as we will still have our exceptional Tour Directors and Local Guides on each itinerary to offer their knowledge and an insider’s perspective of each destination. While you might be shooting, your companion can still learn about and enjoy each one of these exciting destinations.

Q. Does the weather ever alter the itinerary?
A. We will do everything we can to maximize our time at each destination regardless of the weather, knowing that sometimes inclement weather can make for dramatic photographic opportunities. So, if rain is in the forecast, pack a light jacket or rain poncho and bring something to keep your camera dry – a shower cap is ideal.

Q. What if I still shoot with a film camera?
A. That is perfectly fine as the instructor is highly experienced with film exposure techniques.

Q. What type of equipment should I bring?

A. No matter what type of camera you are shooting with, we STRONGLY recommend you bring your owner’s manual. You will receive a Suggested Equipment List prior to your Trafalgar In Focus vacation departure. Q. How much space will I have on the motorcoach to store my camera equipment?

A. Small camera bags, less than 12”x 11”x 6”, can fit into the on-coach overhead storage. If you are bringing a tri-pod or a larger bag, know that they will be stored below the coach with your luggage.

The Foundation is proud to support the National Trust in its project to build new environmentally sustainable visitor facilities at Northern Ireland’s World Heritage listed Giant’s Causeway. The new facilities will provide a greater interpretation of the headland and better access trails so that visitors can explore more of this mythical and breathtaking place.

As the third largest city in South America and the capital of Argentina , Buenos Aires certainly has a lot to live up to and for the hordes of tourists it welcomes every year, it definately delivers.  Boasting bustling streets, grand avenues, old-time cafes and stylish restaurants, it has often been described as being more European than South American in flavor, hence its status as the “Paris of the South.”

But in a country where the national dance is the tango, its no wonder Buenos Aires has a well-known reputation as the seductive party capital of Argentina. It is a true 24-hour city – there is always something going on to occupy the senses.  Dance the night away or enjoy endless options of museums, cinemas and shows until the sun comes up over wide boulevards, leafy parks, grand buildings and an incredibly complex, and vibrant culture.

Popular Sites:

Cemetery of the Recoleta – The most celebrated Argentineans, including Eva Peron and her family, are buried at this elaborate cemetery. Here mausoleums have been made to look like chapels, pyramids and Greek temples.
Cafe Tortoni – The oldest cafe of its type in Argentina, from here you can watch reasonably priced tango shows in its velvet-covered back room.
Plaza de Mayo – The city center – here you’ll find the sites if some of the Argentina’s most important historical events. Surrounding it is the Government House, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Cabildo (town hall).
La Boca – Known as the birthplace of the tango, this one-time shipyard has a famous walkway, the Caminito, where tango dancers perform and artists exhibit their work.
San Telmo – This revitalized area with its artistic cafes, cobblestone streets and antique shops is one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods.

Cuisine:

Meals in Buenos Aires can last several hours and dinner is usually eaten late (after 9pm). Beef is dominant, and it comes in the forms of bife de chorizo (sirloin steak) or empanadas (meat pies). The local wine is also good, especially the reds. You may also like to try mate, the traditional gaucho drink.

The national desserts are dulce de leche, a milk jelly, and alfajores- Argentine sweets made form dulce de leche. Being a cosmopolitan city, there are Italian, Spanish, Japanese, French, Nordic, Mexican, Chinese, Arab and Turkish restaurants.

Shopping:

Argentina has excellent leather and the quality of their leather goods is outstanding. Leather factories can tailor any item you wish and have it ready on only a day, and sometimes only a few hours. Calle Florida is a pedestrian-only street nine blocks long that overflows with leather shops and boutiques from around the world.

Popular souvenirs include ponchos, silver photo frames and the ornate Gaucho belts. Keep an eye out for cashmere sweaters, skirts and jackets. Many of Sen Telmo’s old mansions have been turned into antique shops and these are another great buy in Buenos Aires.

1. Kookai Stock, 82 rue Réaumur, 2nd, Metro Réaumur-Sébastopol, Paris. Open Monday to Saturday, from 10.30am to 7.30pm.

As you’d expect from a boutique nestled in the tailoring district of Paris, Kookai Stock features a large shopping space filled with past-season garments with discounts as big as 70% off. Let the super friendly staff help you pick the perfect Parisian top for a mere €9.

2. Chanel 31, rue Cambon. 75001, Paris. Open Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 7pm.

It wouldn’t be right to have a top 10 shopping list for Paris without mentioning Chanel. It may be right out of most visitors price range, but a trip to Paris would not be complete without a least a short window-shop or browse of the designer brand which is the essence of chic Paris.

3. Saint-Ouen Flea Market, 140 rue des Rosiers 93400 SAINT-OUEN, Paris.
OK, it’s not quite a boutique, but Saint-Ouen Flea Market has so much to offer the shopper who has it all – for a fraction of the price. Originally the Market was a trading spot which joined Paris and Saint-Ouen in the 1800s, born when the traders grouped together to sell their curious wares. Head here for unique souvenirs and bargain vintage trinkets. It may be open every day, but weekends tend to be much busier.

4. Agnes b., 6, rue du Jour, 75001 Paris. Open Monday to Friday from 11am to 8.30pm.

For a boutique that Paris is famed for, head to the urban Agnes b., the original of which is on rue du Jour. Shunning advertising, Agnes Trouble, who started her shop in the 1970s. chooses instead to support young designers and artists through her in-house galleries, giving the Agnes b. boutique a boho feel.

5. Christian Louboutin, 38, rue de Grenelle, Paris. Open Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm.

Christian Louboutin is a name we’re all familiar with, owing to the Parisian shoe designer’s oh-so-sexy yet still super comfortable high heels, which are cherished the world over. Visit the Christian Louboutin boutique in Paris to see kooky yet sumptuous style, and if you’re feeling particular caught up in the romance of Paris, perhaps you’ll purchase a pair.

6. Parfums Frederic Malle, 37, rue de Grenelle, Paris. Open Monday to Saturday 10am to 9pm and Sunday 12am – 6pm.

No trip to Paris would be complete without a visit to one of the city’s perfumeries, and which better boutique than one of the city’s oldest, and just over the road from Christian Louboutin. Have a spritz of the classic designer scents and you might even want to buy some as a very chic souvenir.

7. Printemps, 102 Rue de Provence, 75009, Paris. Open from Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 8pm.

Printemps is by no means a secret, but many visitors to Paris may overlook the vast department store, but that would be a mistake. Printemps’s impressive art nouveau building is filled to the top with France’s favourite fashion, lifestyle and cosmetics brands. Our tip: head to the top floor cafe for unrivalled views of the Eiffel Tower.

8.  Kiliwatch, 64, Rue Tiquetonne, 75002, Paris. Open from Monday to Sunday from 11am to 7pm.

Men in tow may be yearning for a seat (or hearty French lunch) by now, but the most stylish among them are probably after a slice of Parisian style for themselves. Male shoppers should head to Kiliwatch for a great range of vintage menswear. Of course, there’s plenty of women’s vintage fashion in Kiliwatch too!

9. Monoprix, 21 Avenue Opéra, Paris. Open Monday to Saturday 9am to 9pm.

If you’re on a budget during your tour of Paris but would still like to dip into the city’s effortless style, then a visit to Monoprix is essential. As ‘the French version of Marks & Spencers’,  you can expect great-value essentials that are perfect for travelling in, and are excellent quality as well as unique.

10. Comptoir des Cotonniers, 12, Place St. Sulpice, 75006 Paris. Open Monday to Saturday 10am to 7pm.

Q.  Why are the prices lower than summer first class tours?

A.  The prices are lower because Trafalgar and other tour companies can negotiate seasonlly adjusted rates from hotels, suppliers and venues at this time of year.

Q.  Will any of the sights and attractions be closed?

A.  Absolutely not.  Museums and most venues are open all year round.

Q.  Do the shorter days affect sightseeing?

A.  It does get dark earlier in Winter, but the upside is that clients get to enjoy the fabulous city illuminations earlier int he evening, especiy  a, Vienna, Venice and Rome.  Then, there are the Christmas lights.  Paris by night is beautiful at anytime of year, but Paris in December is magnificent.

Q.  Are the hotels of an equal standard to those used on summer first class tours?

A.  Hotels are either the same or of equal standard to out summer first class program, but at a lower price.

Q.  What is a must-have item tha client often forget to pack?

A.  Sunglasses are a must, even in Winter.  Sometimes people forget that sunlight on snow can be very bright.

Q.  What are some quintessential European experience during Winter?

A.  The Alps – the weather is more reliable with clear blue skis.  Snuggling up with a cup of hot chocolate and some apple strudel in Austria, Germany or Switerland is pure bliss.  Exploring the Christmas markets and Paris by night are not to be missed.

Q.  What about meals, will restaurants be closed?

A.  There may be a few restaurants closed for the holidays or refurbishment, but that’s all.  Generally, we use the same vanues as on our Summer tours.

Q.  Are there any places that are better to tour in the coller months?

A.  Some destinations like Egypt, Israel, Greece and Turkey can be wonderful when the temperatures are milder and the attractions less crowded.
